Thanks to their mostly compostable paper-based packaging, ESE pods are one of the most environmentally friendly "ready-to-use" ways of preparing espresso. Many manufacturers then wrap each ESE pod individually in foil so that no aroma is lost.
In this tasting set, however, we show you three ESE varieties that are environmentally friendly through and through. They all do without separate outer packaging for the individual pods. Similar to high-quality roasted coffees, the pads are only packed together in recyclable packaging with a special valve. In this way, the special aroma is preserved in the best possible way. Without any plastic!

Nurri Napoletano pods without individual packaging

25 ESE Espresso Pads, loosely packed

Blend ratio: 80% Arabica | 20% Robusta

As the modern machines for the production of ESE pods are designed for automated individual packaging with plastic, the ESE pods from Nurri must be carefully packed by hand. This is the only way to ensure that the entire production process is completely free of plastic and aluminium. Once used, the ESE pads are easily compostable and super environmentally friendly. Even the bag can be easily recycled for paper waste.

The long drum roast makes this Nurri blend nice and dark and a little oily, making it a true southern Italian BAR espresso. Full-bodied - sweet and particularly high-quality thanks to the washed Robusta beans.
In the cup, the Napoletano has a beautiful, darker crema that is particularly rich and slightly marbled. The taste is seductive with nuances of hazelnut, dark chocolate and a little honey. A pleasantly full-bodied, medium-bodied espresso that delights all along the line.

Mondicaffè The Bocs - Pads without individual packaging

From Colombia to India, the green coffees of "the Bocs" by Mondicaffè come from 6 selected small coffee farms. Personally selected by Franco Mondi, these varieties harmonise perfectly with each other to create an incredibly creamy and full-bodied espresso experience.

The aroma bouquet of these ESE pods is as diverse as the varieties. In just one sip, you can taste aromas of delicate chocolate, a little caramel and candied citrus fruits. The slightly velvety, long-lasting aftertaste rounds off this perfect espresso.

Barbera ESE Pads Aromagic - WITHOUT individual plastic packaging

Blend ratio: 60% Arabica | 40% Robusta

Barbera's Aromagic ESE pods are also individually packaged by hand in ecological paper packaging. This means more work but also doing something good for the environment. Because these pads are also 100% compostable.

The coffee in these pods is classically Neapolitan: varied and elegant in aroma, yet pleasantly strong and dark roasted. Aromas of dark chocolate and nuts are harmoniously complemented by fruity nuances.
